SFP 94 - Episode 94: Zero Suicide: What it takes to thrive after trauma and the triple twins of SF success with John Henden
“The triple twins are (…) hopefulness and optimism, then curiosity and creativity, and thirdly patience and persistence. And those three together get through or find a way through any stuckness that the client may feel.”
“If they catch your hope and optimism and they are curios as to why you are curios, how can they take their lives until they had exhausted their investigation of that?”
“At some early point, I would always ask ‘Tell me about a time in the last week when you felt least suicidal’.”

I have been listening to a few of your podcasts as I follow my journey in SF. I had heard of John Henden as he is part of IASTI and I am working towards my SF Practioner level. At the time I did not think I would benefit from his training as I was not involved with work with trauma recovery or suicide prevention. However, I have begun working with Suzi Curtis’s group – Let’s Keep Talking – as a telephone volunteer. I
My client last night was someone who talked about his suicidal thoughts, social anxiety, grief, health conditions leading to intractable pain. Hearing you and John talking on the podcast whilst I walked my dog was akin to supervision. The triple twins, telephone SF and the loss of all nuance and non verbal but going at the clients pace, listening to their voice quality. Really helpful. Thank you for the great learning and I have signed up for the training on your site. BW
Dear Susannah, thank you so much for sharing this meaningful story! We are so glad that our conversation with John Hendon has made a valuable difference for you. And we’re also delighted that you signed up for the Hopes & Reasons for Living Online Experience with Heather Fiske and Brigitte Lavoie. John, Heather, and Brigitte are three amazing practitioners who helped transform our practice. We hope to hear about the differences the online program is making for you. AND also thank you for the work you do! Suzi Curtis is doing such amazing work and we follow the Let’s Keep Talking initiative, and love the work that is done there!!!
