SFP 109 - Episode 109: Coming Out: Youth Leadership & Solution Focus with Will Reed
“We felt empowered to talk to the staff and see how they were doing and just make sure that everybody was looking out for one another.”
“That’s the kind of thing that I would really like to get in schools (…) at least one teacher or some teachers being trained in it (Solution Focus), so that they are able to awaken the passion in young people towards the approach.”
“I’d like people to genuinely listen to young people and treat them as an expert. And then give a young person a leading role (…) and take on what they have to say.”

I’ve listened to this twice now as I’m Boys in Mind Co-ordinator and Will is a big part of our team. What I was most pleased about was Will’s clarity , eloquence , passion and warmth. I was at one of the assemblies where he delivered his testimony , coming out as gay to hundreds of students. Jim , another team member , was also at one of these assemblies and we both decided that we had to have Will in Boys in Mind. He is making a huge difference to both adults and young people whenever he speaks
What I also really liked about the podcast was the warm and encouraging way you asked the questions Elfie and Dominik. You listened very carefully to Will and gently probed to find out more . A model of SF practice .
I’ve listened to lots of your podcasts and will continue to do so . I look forward to meeting you both in person at a future SF conference.
Best wishes
Kate
Dear Kate, thank you so much for your kind words. We are very much looking forward to meeting you, too. It’s so great how you see Will’s brilliance.
